During WWI the firm SPAD had designed a double fighter of original layout. The SPAD S.A.4 was a modification of SPAD S.A.2 and had the engine Le Rhone 9J by powered 110 hp. More than half of them had been sold in Russia. In Russia these airplanes were used to the end of the WWI and during the civil war.
